‘Bigger than the song’ explores meanings in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander music, building cultural understanding, respect, and ethical ICIP use.
Syllabus
Outcomes referred to in this document are from Music 7–10 Syllabus (2024) NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) for and on behalf of the Crown in right of the State of New South Wales, 2024.
Through story sharing and community collaboration, students engage respectfully with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander music and stories and learn to make ethical choices about how music is used in performance and composition, including use of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) protocols.
The unit is supported by an accompanying slide presentation resource, score booklet, teacher resource booklet, student booklet, audio and video support resources, podcast and a sample assessment task.
