Base school allocation
The base school allocation provides funding for the core costs of educating each student and operating a school. This includes staffing and operational components.
Staffing
The staffing allocation includes the school's teaching and non-teaching staff entitlement and can only be used for staffing.
Operational funding
Operational funding supports the operation of the school and reflects the school type. It includes the following:
School operational funding
School operational funding is provided to support and enhance the operations of the school. It is allocated based on school type, school enrolments and staff entitlement.
Utilities
This funding allocation is provided to schools to cover water and waste utility costs.
Per capita
The per capita allocation helps principals address the unique needs of students in their school.
Location loading
Remote and/or isolated schools receive funding through the location loading in relation to:
- remoteness – distance from population centres and the additional cost of goods and services
- isolation – distance from other schools and educational resources.
In 2026 the location loading delivers funding to 1,000 schools.
Schools must report on the impact of the location allocation in their annual report to meet accountability requirements.
Initiative funding
Initiative funding is aligned to specific programs and initiatives such as professional learning or school support allocation (principal support).
Site specific
Site specific allocations are provided to meet the requirements of specific school sites and will differ for each school. Examples include:
- year adviser
- schools for specific purposes (SSP) supplementary funding
- vocational education and training (VET) program support.
