Working collaboratively through virtual professional learning
Ten teachers from six high schools in and around Moss Vale chose to continue their professional learning through a virtually delivered Day 2 Road Safety in PDHPE 7–10 workshop, rather than waiting for COVID-19 disruptions to pass.
Following a face-to-face Day 1 workshop at Moss Vale High School, participants were keen to further develop their skills in designing strengths-based, skills-focused road safety teaching and learning for Stage 4 and 5 students. In response, a Day 2 workshop was quickly developed and delivered via Zoom, enabling teachers to reconnect and continue their learning.
Despite working remotely, the level of collaboration was high. Teachers actively shared ideas, engaged in discussion, and produced quality teaching materials, demonstrating that meaningful professional learning can occur in a virtual environment.
Participants accessed a range of adaptable resources and developed programs tailored to their school contexts, including:
- Stage 4 and Stage 5 units of work
- PowerPoint presentations to support teaching and learning
- Resources using interactive crash statistics
- Formative and summative assessment tasks
Feedback from teachers highlighted the value of the experience:
A useful day with relevant material and resources
There was an abundance of suitable material relevant for our students and the environment
All resources will be shared with PDHPE colleagues to support our programs
