Croydon Public School celebrates Walk safely to school day
The Croydon Public School community is committed to safe and active travel, with many families regularly choosing to walk to school. This made participation in Walk Safely to School Day a natural and meaningful way to celebrate these positive habits.
Families gathered at a local park to connect and discuss practical ways to stay safe as pedestrians, as well as the broader benefits of walking to school. Key messages included:
- the importance of children holding a grown-up’s hand when walking near roads
- how to identify safe places to cross
- the health benefits of staying active
- how walking supports focus and learning
- the need to always Stop! Look! Listen! Think! before crossing the road.
After walking safely to school together, families enjoyed a healthy breakfast organised by the P&C.
The event brought together the wider community, including local council representatives, police officers, Department of Education staff, Bernard Carlon, Executive Director of the Centre for Road Safety, and Jodi McKay, the local Member of Parliament.
It was a positive and engaging morning that highlighted the benefits of active travel and strong community partnerships.
